Task 1: Think, Group, Share.
Individual- Students have individually written about an adventure story and included the:
- What
- Why
- Where
- How
- Who
Group
Have students have worked well as a group, choosing a recorder, leader and speaker in their group?
Have they found common themes between their individual adventures answering these questions?
- What is an adventure?
- What usually happens in an adventure?
- Why do people go on adventures? What is the purpose?
- Where do they go in adventures?
- Are there different types of adventures that you have identified?
Has the group leader shared their findings with the class and taken questions?
Peer assessment
Have the class asked questions and sought clarification for any gaps in the groups answer?
Task 2: Life in the 1860s
Individual
Have students each created a map of Australia as it looked in 1860 according to the instructions?
- Does the map have:
- State lines, mountain ranges, rivers and lakes?
- Main townships and landmarks?
- Been “aged” according to the instructions?
Task 3: The Burke and Wills story
Pairs
In pairs students have successfully completed the timeline activity:

Task 4: How we make decisions
Individual
Have students written about a holiday destination in terms of:
- The associated emotions?
- The associated knowledge of the destination?
- Students have considered how they chose their destination in relation to the associated emotions and knowledge?
- Have compared their prefered destination to a less prefered one?
Task 5:creating alternative decisions and consequences for Burke and Wills
Individually
For the alternative decision and consequence activity, have students:
- Written an alternative decision in the box provided?
- Written the consequences of their alternative decision in the box provided?
- Is the consequence clearly related to the alternative decision?
Task 6: Making the Choose Your Own Adventure
Individually
- Have all students completed the Powerpoint tutorial?
- Have they used the information they’ve complied throughout the unit in their powerpoint, including events timeline activity and the Choose Your Own Adventure activity sheet?
- Have they placed relevant pictures in their powerpoint?
Task 7: Student evaluation of the unit (assessment as learning)
This section has no specific criteria, but should be used by the teacher to inform their future teaching. The other purpose is for the students to conduct "assessment as learning" exercise. The students work for this task, however, is not intended for assessment in itself; that is, it is not assessment of learning.
